  • Harbour

Port Town was a quiet fisherman's place, and its harbour contained only one large wharf and a couple of warehouses, the largest one occupied by Nipponar company. The rest of the smaller ships moored at minor docks, dragging their nets directly to the waiting carts that brought them to market. The sea current prevented the waters from freezing over during all but the most icey of winters. There is a strong salty stench of fish in the air and even the gulls cry out in protest over the stormy winds that seem ever present.

  • Main Street

The life of the town is its Main Street, with the temples of the Mother, Pecunia and Pan forming the elegant middle around a square while on either side of the street there are shops, from the practical to the frivolous. The square is its marketplace with stalls that sell fish, spices, soaps, dried herbs, mulled wine, roast nuts. In summer there is a sparkling fountain, but that has now been closed off with wooden panneling to protect it against the frost, merrily decorated with wreaths. On the Northside the middle class housing, with the poorest near the harbour, while to the south the rich residents have found more space and fresh air. Latern poles decorated with green wreaths provide a bit of cheer in the early hours of eveningtide.

  • City Gates

A carefully created strong stone wall surrounds Port Town, protecting its inhabitants from the dangers of the Great Frozen Beyond. Next to the city gates at the very southern tip of Port Town, open only during light hours, the garrison of Shorewich is housed. The Shoreguards are a proud but small unit. Several foreigners have joined the forces because Shorewich is not densely populated enough to provide enough soldiers. Regular patrols go out to check the coastlines, as well as offering services to the Nipponar company.
